Toronto singer-songwriter Carmen Toth has a voice that’s both gritty and sweet at the same time.

Her wide vocal range and gift for singing harmonies comes from over a decade of singing in choirs. At age 9, Carmen wrote her first song on her Casio keyboard, and she began to take her songwriting seriously in 2001, when she started playing guitar. She made her big debut at an open mic in 2002, and released her first 4-song EP “Potional” in 2004. In 2005, Carmen began playing under the artist name “Social Potion.” While Social Potion was initially a duo, and briefly a 4-person band in 2012, Social Potion is currently a solo act, though Carmen often plays with other local musicians. The self-titled Social Potion EP, released in 2011, has been well received by both listeners and critics alike. Perhaps WORDKRAPHT Magazine said it best: “Most listeners will wish the album is longer. You will not be able to get enough of Toth’s voice and her relatable lyrics.” All of the EP’s singles, especially “Drive Myself Home” and “Cordelia,” are currently getting airplay on numerous online radio stations and podcasts. The 5-song EP is currently available for “pay what you want” download at socialpotion.bandcamp.com.
